BATTISTONI, Nello – It is with great sadness that the family of Nello Battistoni announces his sudden passing at Health Sciences North on September 15th, 2018 at the age of 88.
Nello will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Rita (nee Giampaoli); sons Max (Sandra), Andrew (Bridget), and Jimmy (Kim); grandchildren Michael (Jessica), Matthew (Kerry), Justin (Melanie), Liana (Zach), Kristin (Chris), and Aaron (Caleb); and his great grandchildren Christian and Victoria. Nello was predeceased by his parents Maria (Monaldi) and Secondo Battistoni, and his siblings, Filippo, Nello, Enos, Orlando, Nella, and Clara.
Nello was born in Fano, Italy in 1930. He moved to Canada in 1955, with his wife Rita and son Max following shortly to settle in Sudbury. He started work with Cecchetto as a heavy diesel mechanic and was a faithful employee for 42 years.
Rita and Nello raised three sons and built a beautiful life as their family continued to grow, with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One of Nello’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved them very much.
In his leisure time, Nello would find great joy in spending countless hours tending to his vegetable garden in his back yard. He also loved to go fishing with his good friend Gino Tomassoni. Once retired, he and Rita would take tropical trips in which Nello would love to recall fond memories of his travels. He was a lifetime member of the Copper Cliff Italian Club and an active member of the Marchigiano Club.
