Lynn Ostergaard

It is with great sadness that we announce that Lynn Ostergaard passed away on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 in Ottawa, at the age of 74, following a five-year battle with prostate cancer. Son of the late Ed and Ina Ostergaard, Lynn will be greatly missed by his partner, Isla Paterson, and his sisters Karen (David), of London, England, Susan (Dan) of Ottawa and his brother Peter (Carol) of Victoria, BC.  Lynn was the much loved uncle of Elizabeth, Jessie, Michael and Eric, cherished Step Uncle to Nadine and Nic, and Great Uncle to Cecily, Timothy, Douglas, Christopher, Cooper, Aynsley and Everett.  Lynn was a writer, having plays performed in Halifax and Ottawa, however his greatest passion in life, and the occupation that took him around the world, was car racing.  He, himself, raced as a young man, and spent many years on the Formula One (Grand Prix) and IndyCar circuit, working as a mechanic with, among others, Emerson Fittipaldi, Michael and Mario Andretti and Nigel Mansell.  Lynn loved cycling, skating the canal, and skiing the trails around Ottawa, until his illness, just recently, robbed him of these pursuits.  Lynn had a wealth of friends.  His passing will leave a hole in the lives of many.  The family wishes to thank in particular Ray Amiro, for his devoted friendship to Lynn, especially in his last days, and Lydia and Alberto, for their kindness and caring (and cat sitting).  Also Dr. Paul Fluit, and the staff at Champlain LHIN, his Occupational Therapist Andrew and all his personal care workers.  Visitation will be held at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd, Ottawa (At Roosevelt) on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 from 3 p.m. until time of “Celebration of Life” in the Chapel at 4 p.m.   If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Condolences, tributes and donations may be made at

  1. I am so sad to see that Lynn had passed away and I had not known. I had communicated with him over many years intermittently. we met when I was hitchhiking across Canada in 19 70 approx. He stayed with me and my partner in Mortimer England for 6 months before we had our children who are now in their mid 30’s. He visited many yimes over the years and I took my son to visit him in Toronto one time. More recently he didn’t respond to emails. Now I know why. He will be remembered.
